TEAM NOTES
- The Red Storm defeated the Memphis Tigers to capture its fourth-straight STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic Championship. St. John's is now 8-0 all-time in Holiday Classic contests.
- St. John's used a hot start to take a 40-31 lead into halftime, as the team shot 16-of-23 (69.6 percent) from the field in the first half. STJ's 40 points tied for the third highest scoring half of the season.
- The Red Storm shot a combined 13-of-16 from the free throw line against Memphis. It is the highest percentage for the team this season in games with more than five attempts.
- St. John's outscored Memphis 17-3 in bench points improving the team's record to 5-1 in games with a positive bench point differential. The Red Storm posted a 35-6 advantage in bench scoring for the two games in the STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Junior Eugeneia McPherson finished the game with 13 points as she went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. McPherson earned MVP honors for the STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic as she averaged 16.5 points per game over the weekend. McPherson is averaging 15 points per game in her five neutral court games this season.
- McPherson also tied a career-high with five assists on the game, which she previously set on Dec. 19, 2010 against UCSB, in the 2010 STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic Championship game.
- Junior Shenneika Smith scored at team-high 18 points and a season-high four assists on her way to being selected to the All-Tournament Team. Smith averaged 13 points, six rebounds and two assists for the two Holiday Classic games.
- The Red Storm is now 2-1 when Smith is the team's leading scorer.
- Sophomore Keylantra Langley earned her second-career start as she replaced injured guard Nadirah McKenith in the lineup.
- Langley finished with six points and went 4-of-4 from the charity stripe including two free throws that stretched the lead to 64-60 with less than two seconds remaining.
- Senior Da'Shena Stevens had her first double-digit scoring performance in just her second game of the season. Stevens finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and team-high seven rebounds.
- Stevens was an All-Tournament team selection for her performance throughout the weekend.
- Senior Tesia Harris scored six points and was a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from the field. Her two blocks for the game was also a season-high.
- McKenith missed her second game due to an injury suffered against Baylor (Dec. 11).
