Dec. 31, 2011
TEAM NOTES
- St. John's finished the game with four double-figure scorers as juniors Eugeneia McPherson and Shenneika Smith led the way with 15 points apiece. The junior duo was joined in double-digits by sophomore Mary Nwachukwu (11 points) and freshman Amber Thompson (10 points).
- The last time the Red Storm registered four double-digit scoring performances was against USF on Feb. 16, 2011. The team accomplished the feat six times in 2010-11 and compiled a 4-2 record in those games.
- The game against Boston University was the first time all season that senior Da'Shena Stevens and junior Nadirah McKenith both were in the Red Storm starting lineup and on the court together. It was Stevens first start of the season after missing the first 10 games with a knee injury and McKenith made her return after injuring her knee against Baylor on Dec. 11, 2011.
- The Red Storm held the Terriers to 14 points in the opening period. It matched St. John's best first-half defensive effort of the season when they held La Salle to 14 first-half points on Nov. 16, 2011.
- The 14 first-half points were a season-low for Boston University as St. John's held them without a field goal until 14:59 remaining in the first half.
- St. John's has now held three opponents to under 20 first-half points including the game against La Salle and a 16-point effort against Wagner on Nov. 22, 2011.
- In last season's game against Boston University, St. John's won 66-42 in Boston, Mass. Last year, the Red Storm also held the Terriers under 20 points in the first half (19), forced 21 turnovers for the game and held BU to 28.3 percent shooting. In this year's matchup, the Red Storm forced 19 turnovers and forced the Terriers to shoot 28.8 percent.
- It was the third time this year that STJ shot better than 60% from the field in the first half (61.5 percent).
- St. John's scored 40 points in the first half for the third time this season and are now 2-1 on the season when doing so.
- The 37-point margin of victory was the largest for STJ since a 31-point triump over Southern Mississippi on Dec. 18, 2010.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- McPherson finished the game with 15 points, which marks the ninth-consecutive game she reached double figures.
- McPherson also set a career-high with six steals against the Terriers. She had previously recorded five steals twice in her career, most recently against Prarie View on Dec. 17, 2011.
- Nwachukwu exceled in her first game off the bench for the Red Storm, as she had scored a career-high 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field. It was her second double-digit scoring performance at St. John's and her first since the season-opener vs. St. Bonaventure's on Nov. 12, 2011.
- Smith scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting making it her third straight double-digit scoring performance.
