TEAM NOTES
- It was St. John's fifth win over Rutgers in 36 all-time meetings, but head coach Kim Barnes Arico's second consecutive victory over the Scarlet Knights. The Red Storm beat RU, 60-52, last season.
- STJ also defeated Rutgers in back-to-back meetings in 1991 and 1993.
- St. John's improves to 16-6 overall and 5-4 in BIG EAST Conference play.
- The three-point win is St. John's closest margin of victory this season and closest since last season's 68-65 win over Syracuse on Jan. 27, 2010.
- STJ improved to 8-2 at home this season and 21-3 since the beginning of the 2009-10 campaign.
- St. John's also improved to 6-2 in the month of February over the last two seasons and 3-1 on February 1st all-time.
- After falling behind 6-2 early in the first half, the Red Storm held the Scarlet Knights scoreless for 8:50 while it went on a 16-0 run to take a commanding 18-6 lead.
- STJ held Rutgers to a season-low 15 points in the first half. The Scarlet Knights previous low in a half was 17 points.
- St. John's forced 22 total turnovers, including 13 in the first half and outscored the Scarlet Knights 24-15 in points off turnovers.
- The Red Storm also outscored RU, 17-0, in bench points.
- Barnes Arico improved to 146-119 at St. John's and 240-191 overall.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Sophomore guard Amanda Burakoski set multiple career-highs in the game including points (16), field goals (5), 3-point field goals (4) and free throws (2). It was Burakoski's third career double-figure scoring performance.
- Junior Da'Shena Stevens scored eight points to bring her career total to 1,117 points and currently sits at No. 13 on the all-time list, just two points behind Angela Clark (2003-06) at the No. 12 spot (1,119 points). Stevens played a career-high 38 minutes in the game.
- Senior guard Sky Lindsay scored two points in the game to bring her career total to 929 points, just 71 points away from the 1,000-point plateau.
- Stevens, Nadirah McKenith and Centhya "Coco" Hart all pulled down a team-high six rebounds in the game.
