QUEENS, N.Y. - After a pair of midweek rainouts, St. John's (16-13, 5-4) returns to action at Kaiser Stadium this weekend and hosts Louisville (20-12, 6-3) in a pivotal three-game BIG EAST series. The series opens with a 3 p.m. game on April 15 before a 1 p.m. game on April 16. The series concludes with a noon game on April 17.
Notables
- The series with Louisville opens a season-long eight-game homestand. The Red Storm is 6-0 at home this season, including a 3-0 mark in conference action.
- As of the April 11 BIG EAST rankings, St. John's is third in doubles (54), tied for third in home runs (15), fourth in on-base percentage (.374), runs (186) and RBI (159) and fifth in slugging percentage (.376). The Red Storm also leads the league in fielding percentage (.973).
- Joe Panik, who currently leads the BIG EAST with a .518 on-base percentage, has reached base safely in 26-of-29 games this season.
- Paul Karmas continues to climb in the all-time St. John's record books in both doubles and RBI. With eight doubles and 16 RBI already this season, Karmas now ranks second all-time in doubles (56) and third all-time in RBI (148). Panik Named To Weekly Honor Roll For Second Time This Season
- After leading St. John's to a 3-1 week, including a pair of wins against Seton Hall in BIG EAST action, Joe Panik has been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for the second time this season.
- Panik batted .615 (8-for-13) with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. The shortstop also scored six runs, posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and added a .667 on-base percentage.
- Panik recorded his fourth-career five-RBI game in a 13-4 win against Wagner (April 6), going 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.
Wessinger Recognized As a National Strength And Conditioning Association All-American
- Junior Matt Wessinger has been recognized as a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American for his dedication to strength training and conditioning.
- The second baseman is one of 247 collegiate and high school student-athletes to earn NSCA All-America honors.
- As a sophomore in 2010, Wessinger set new career-highs in runs (51), hits (78), doubles (16), home runs (6) and RBI (52), and capped his season with a selection to the NCAA Charlottesville Regional All-Tournament Team.
