Lee Takes Second Place In Hoya Invitational

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - St. John's freshman standout Harin Lee took second place in the Hoya Invitational after Tuesday's final round at the Members Club at Four Streams was rained out. The Red Storm finished sixth in Georgetown's 17-team tournament.
Lee carded a 76-73--149 (+5) on Monday and finished just three strokes behind Nova Southeastern's Sandra Changkija, who won the individual title with a 71-75--146 (+2). Lee was consistent through the first two rounds, leading the 89-player field with 25 pars. The Bayside, N.Y., native was even on the par 5s with a 5.00 scoring average - the fifth-best mark in the field. Her 4.15 (+3) scoring average on the par 4s ranked second.
The second-place finish marked Lee's third top-2 showing of the spring season. Lee won the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate individual title on March 12 and tied with teammate Sebin Kim for second in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate on March 20. Lee has finished in the top 14 in each of eight collegiate golf tournaments she has played in with seven top-10 finishes and six top-5 showings.
The Red Storm made the jump from ninth place to sixth place with a six-stroke improvement Monday afternoon on the par-72, 6,125-yard course. The team shot 326-320--646 (+70) and finished 23 stokes back of Nova Southeastern which won the team championship with a 307-316--623 (+47). Yale (51-over 627), Princeton (60-over 636) and Pennsylvania (60-over 636) rounded on the top three.
Freshman Stephanie Eybers shot an 83-80--163 (+19) and tied for 28th. Eybers tallied 21 pars, which tied for sixth. Kim tied for 36th after carding an 83-82--165 (+21). Kim, who garnered BIG EAST Women's Golfer of the Week honors on March 23, tied for the second most birdies with four. She played her best golf on the par 3s, tying for third with a 3.13 (+1) scoring average.
Junior Ellen Oswald shot an 84-85--169 (+25) and tied for 52nd. Sophomore Mariana Barrios carded an 87-86--173 (+29) and tied for 67th.
The Red Storm women's golf team will next compete in the Brown Invitational from April 10-11 at Rhode Island CC in Barrington, R.I.
