QUEENS, N.Y.-Sophomore Harin Lee collected her fourth career individual title on Monday, taking the Towson Women's Invitational by five strokes. After carding a second-straight one-over 73, Lee, the 2010-11 BIG EAST Champion and Freshman of the Year, has now finished in the top-two in six of her last seven tournaments dating back to last year.
"I'm honestly not trying to go out and win every tournament I play in, I'm just trying to go low," Lee said. "It's great to win though, I wasn't expecting to come out here and win in my first tournament. Hopefully this means it's going to be a great year."
In addition to Lee, sophomore Stephanie Eybers finished tied for 18th place with an 80-81-161(+17) to help pace the Red Storm to a third place finish for the second year in-a-row at the Towson tournament. Old Dominion took the team title with a 317-307--624.
"It was a nice finish for the team, but I think we feel we have some things to work on this week and improve on before we head to Ball State this weekend," head coach Ambry Bishop said.
St. John's got top-30 performances from junior Sebin Kim and senior Ellen Oswald, who tied for 29th with identical scorecards of 82-84-166(+22). Redshirt junior Mariana Barrios collected an 86-82-168 (+24) to finish tied for 35th and round out the scoring for the Red Storm.
"We played well here last year, and it's a great start for us this year," Lee said. "We've added two new players and didn't lose anyone, so we've got even more positive energy around the team, and we feel great about this season."
Next up for the Red Storm is a first-time trip to the Ball State Cardinal Classic at the Players Club (Yorktown, Ind.) Sept. 17-18. For the latest news and updates on St John's women's golf team, log on to RedStormSports.com and follow the team (@STJ_WomensGolf) on Twitter.
