QUEENS, N.Y.-The St. John's women's golf team heads to the Midwest this weekend for their second tournament of the fall season at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. The 36-hole tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at The Players Club (Yorktown, Ind.).
The Red Storm are coming off a third-place finish at the Towson Women's Invitational, with sophomore Harin Lee collecting her fourth career individual title. This past week, Golfweek named Lee one of the top-50 players to watch this season in women's college golf.
"We're excited about getting out here to play, the course is in great shape, and we were all hitting the ball really well in practice," senior Ellen Oswald said.
Also competing this weekend will be teams from Cleveland State, Northern Illinois, Dayton, Southern Illinois, Youngstown State, Indiana State, IUPUI, Ohio, Western Illinois, and host Ball State. The Red Storm is hoping to learn from the experiences at Towson and perform even better at the Ball State Cardinal Classic..
"Everyone on this team has the ability to hit the ball really well, and so every week we really try to go out and improve the short game and work on finishing each hole," Oswald said. "We know that each and every one of us can play better than we did last wekk, and I think based on today's practice, we have a really good shot at shooting some low scores this weekend."
The team will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow with a shotgun start, playing 18 holes. For all of the latest updates on the Red Storm at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, log on to RedStormSports.com and follow the team (@stj_womensgolf) on Twitter.
