Diaz Garners BIG EAST Goalkeeper Of The Week Accolades

QUEENS, N.Y. - After posting shutouts against a pair of ranked opponents in then-No. 7 Indiana and then-No. 25 Iona, redshirt sophomore Rafael Diaz has been named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Diaz has now recorded six-consecutive shutouts, a stretch that ties a career-long mark, and has not allowed a goal in 563:02.
Diaz made three saves in a scoreless draw against the Hoosiers, who entered the game averaging 2.8 goals per game, before adding three more saves in a 2-0 win against the Gaels.
The keeper, who currently leads the BIG EAST with six shutouts, also lowered his goals against average to 0.42, the second-best in the league.
St. John's (5-1-1) ranks first in the league in shutouts (6), second in goals against average and fourth in corner kicks (43).
Jack Bennett leads the league in game-winning goals (4), ranks tied for second in goals (5) and tied for third in points (10), while Jimmy Mulligan is tied for second with three assists.
St. John's returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, traveling to No. 2/2 Connecticut to open BIG EAST play.
