QUEENS, N.Y.- Women's golf head coach Ambry Bishop announced the fall half of the 2011-12 women's golf schedule, featuring four tournaments in four different states.
"I'm looking forward to the fall season, we have a lot of good returning players," Bishop said. "We switched up our fall tournaments a little bit, and got some different competition on our schedule."
The season begins at the Towson Women's Invitational Sept. 11-12 at Hillendale Country Club (Phoenix, Md.). In 2010, the Red Storm finished third in the event, thanks to top-10 finishes by current senior Ellen Oswald, current junior Mariana Barrios, and current sophomore Harin Lee.
"The Towson Invitational has always been a good event, and one where we can excel." Bishop said. "It's a challenging course, but it's one where we can still shoot low rounds."
The next event for the Red Storm comes at the Players Club (Yorktown, Ind.) for the Ball State Cardinal Classic. This will be St. John's first time participating in the event.
The third tournament of the fall comes at the Richmond Spider Invitational at Independence Golf Club (Midlothian, Va.), Oct. 10-11. This will also be a first-time event for the Red Storm.
"We've done the same fall schedule for several years now, and with these new tournaments, it allows us to get some different, stronger competition," Bishop said. "By going to different tournaments across the country, it can give our team more national exposure and recognition."
Finally, the Red Storm will visit local rival Rutgers for the Rutgers Women's Invitational at Rutgers Golf Course (Piscataway, N.J.), Oct. 14-15. St. John's finished fourth at the 2010 Rutgers Women's Invitational, as Lee tied for third, and Barrios tied for 12th place.
"We always play at Rutgers, which is a great event, and it's a great opportunity to be close to home for our fans and for the families of some of the girls," Bishop said.
