TEAM NOTES
- St. John's held Providence to 41 points for the game. It was the lowest total against a BIG EAST opponent since the Red Storm held Cincinnati to 34 points on Jan. 18, 2011.
- The Red Storm held the Friars to 28.6 percent shooting for the night which is also the lowest percentage in a BIG EAST game since they held Cincinnati to 26.7 percent last season.
- In nine home games this season, St. John's has held its opponent to 50 points or less seven times.
- St. John's extends its home winning streak to eight games and is now 8-1 at Carnesecca Arena.
- St. John's never trailed throughout the entire contest. Providence cut the lead to 43-40 with 7:21 remaining but St. John's used a 14-1 run to close out the game.
- The Red Storm held the Friars to 19 points in the opening period. St. John's is now 4-0 this season when holding an opponent to under 20 points in the first half.
- In last season's game against the Friars, St. John's won 69-53 at Alumni Hall in Providence. STJ dominated the inside, outscoring the Friars 36-18 on points in the paint. In this year's matchup, the Red Storm seperated itself by outscoring Providence 22 to 11 in points off turnovers.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Junior Shenneika Smith became the 18th player in St. John's women's basketball history to record 1,000 points for her career. Her 1,000th-point came on a free throw with 1:53 remaining in regulation.
- Senior teammate Da'Shena Stevens, the last 1,000 point scorer for the Red Storm, also reached the milestone on a free throw during the 2010-11 season. Smith led the team with 18 points on the night, with 14 coming in the second half. STJ is now 4-1 when she leads the team in scoring.
- In her three career games against Providence, Smith is averaging 12.3 points per contest.
- Junior Eugeneia McPherson finished the game with 12 points, which marks the 10th-consecutive game she reached double figures.
- Stevens narrowly missed her first double-double of the season as she scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in a season-high 36 minutes. Smith, McPherson, Stevens and junior Nadirah McKenith combined for 48 of the Red Storm's 57 points on the night.
