Stevens Earns Second-Straight BIG EAST Honor Roll Nod

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's senior forward Da'Shena Stevens was named to the BIG EAST conference honor roll for the second-straight week as announced by league officials on Monday. Stevens, who has earned nine career weekly honors from the conference, led the Red Storm to its second-consecutive 2-0 week as she averaged 16.5 points per game.
With 16 points in St. John's 61-52 upset over No. 17/16 Rutgers on Sunday, Stevens, a native of Stamford Conn., tallied her sixth-straight game of double figure scoring.
The forward had her second double-double of the season against USF (Feb. 8) with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the 17th of her career.
For the week, Stevens averaged a near double-double with 9.5 rebounds per game. She shot 50 percent (11-for-22) from the field and 11-for-14 from the foul line. She also added three assists and three blocks to her weekly total.
With 1,399 points, Stevens has moved up to No. 7 on St. John's all-time scoring list.
St. John's (17-8, 9-3 BIG EAST) has won 10 of its last 12 games, including five-straight against BIG EAST opponents on the road. In BIG EAST road games, Stevens leads the Red Storm in scoring with 14.2 ppg and a team-high 6.4 rpg.
The Red Storm is currently third in the league standings with four games left to play in the regular season.
In conference games played, St. John's is No. 3 in scoring margin (+6.8) and in scoring defense (53.3 ppg). The Red Storm leads the BIG EAST in turnover margin, committing an average of 6.4 less than its league opponents.
The Red Storm will have six days off before traveling to Storrs, Conn., to face No. 3 Connecticut at Gampell Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 18. St. John's will be looking for its sixth-straight BIG EAST road victory and fourth upset of the season against the Huskies. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
