Dennis Garners Spot On BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman Bret Dennis, who made his collegiate-debut in a midweek start at Wagner, has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after helping St. John's win its third-straight BIG EAST series as part of a 3-1 week. Dennis is the third Red Storm player named to the weekly honor roll this season, joining Sean O'Hare and Matt Wessinger.
Dennis batted a team-best .571 (8-for-14) with six runs scored, one double, one RBI, one stolen base and a .625 on-base percentage. The rookie was even better in BIG EAST action, batting .636 (7-for-11) with three multi-hit games, five runs scored and a .692 on-base percentage.
After going 1-for-3 with a run scored in his collegiate-debut at Wagner (April 3), the second baseman went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored at Rutgers (April 5) in his BIG EAST debut. Dennis went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the second game against the Scarlet Knights (April 6) before scoring three runs and finishing 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the finale (April 7).
St. John's (18-13, 6-3) currently ranks fourth in the league in runs scored (188) and is also tied for second in triples (11) and third in home runs (19). The pitching staff ranks second in strikeouts (252) and fifth in opponent batting average (.264).
The Red Storm returns to action and opens a six-game homestand against Columbia at 3:30 p.m. on April 10.
