East Meadow, N.Y. - The St. John's women's golf team will make program history on Monday as it opens play for the inaugural St. John's Intercollegiate at historic Eisenhower Park. The 36-hole event will be stretched over two days with one round on each day.
In the field for the first home tournament in St. John's women's golf history will be players from Central Connecticut State, Columbia, Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, Towson and St. John's. The Lions will be sending four players for this year's tournament who will all be playing as individuals and will not collect a team score. The Pirates will have 10 golfers on the course, playing as two separate teams.
Eisenhower Park is renowned for being the site of the 1926 PGA Championship, and the park's white course will be the site for the St. John's Intercollegiate. The course can be stretched to 6,399 yards and is a par-72 layout. Each of the four par threes on the white course feature two identical greens, contributing to the challenging and unique layout designed by legendary course architect Robert Trent Jones.
Monday's play will begin at 10:30 a.m. as players start via tee times on the first hole. All eight Red Storm players will be in the field. Sophomore Brittany Hurst - who is making her first collegiate start Monday - will be off first at 10:30. Classmate Cameron Lambertson will tee off in the second group at 10:39, while redshirt senior Mariana Barrios will follow at 10:48. Hurst, Lambertson and Barrios will all be playing as individuals in this year's tournament.
Senior Sebin Kim will tee off at 10:57, junior Stephanie Eybers at 11:06, junior Rachel Carpenter at 11:15, senior Jennifer Neville at 11:24 and junior Harin Lee at 11:33.
This will not be the first meeting of the year for several of the teams in the field as CCSU, FDU, Towson and St. John's all dueled at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational to start the year. The Red Storm captured the title last weekend, while Central Connecticut State finished seventh, Fairleigh Dickinson eighth and Towson 13th.
After the completion of play on Monday, scores will be posted to both Golfstat.com and RedStormSports.com.
