Team Notes The Red Storm outscored Syracuse 26-24 in the paint and 20-11 off turnovers. St. John's outscored Syracuse 33-30 in the second half. Today marked the third-annual Field Trip Day. The 3,661 fans in attendance is the highest Carnesecca Arena total this season in spite of the city-wide bus strike. The Red Storm held Syracuse to a season-low 60 points. For the third-straight game, the Red Storm committed fewer turnovers than its opponent. St. John's has now lost three games in the final seconds (UCLA - Dec. 16, Delaware - Jan. 2 and Syracuse Jan. 23) St. John's is 3-2 in BIG EAST play. Individual Notes Senior guard Shenneika Smith scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. The game marked the sixth time this season and 13th time in her career that Smith scored in 20 or more points in a game. Smith's 711 career rebounds rank sixth all-time at St. John's. Smith now has 1,499 career points and is four points away from moving to No. six on the all-time career scoring list. Senior guard Nadirah McKenith finished tied a season-high with eight assists, pulled down five rebounds and scored 10 points. McKenith has dished out five or more assists in 10 straight games and is averaging 6.5 assists per game over that span. With 524 career assists, McKenith surpassed Sue Bretthauer (1976-1978) for second most assists and is just seven assists away from passing Janet Roos (1982-1985) and becoming the all-time assists leader. •Freshman guard Aliyyah Handford scored in double-figures for the seventh time this season and for the seventh time in 10 games. Handford recorded 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior guard Keylantra Langley tied a career-high with two 3-pointers made. Langley last hit two treys against Tennessee Tech (Dec. 15). Langley also grabbed five rebounds in the game. Sophomore forward Amber Thompson scored five points and grabbed five rebounds in 15 minutes. Senior center Jennifer Blanding played a season-high 13 minutes and tallied a season-high three blocked shots. Junior guard Briana Brown saw limited minutes after missing the last two games with concussion-like symptoms.
