Shenneika Smith Tabbed To BIG EAST Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior guard Shenneika Smith was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 22.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game against two ranked teams last week. Monday was Smith's fourth weekly honor this season, which included BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday Nov. 26 and two other weekly honor roll mentions (Dec. 17 and Nov. 19).
The Brooklyn, N.Y. native also added four blocks and three steals for the week as she led the team in scoring against then-No. 13/12 Louisville and then-RV/No. 22 Syracuse with 23 points against the Cardinals and 21 against the Orange. In Louisville, Ky., Smith went 9-for-20 from the field, including 2-for-8 from beyond the arc. She scored 19 points in the second half. It was Smith's seventh 20-point effort this season.
Smith is 18th in the national Division I rankings in blocks per game (2.53). She helps St. John's to a No. 4 ranking nationally.
After scoring 23 points at Louisville, Smith jumped from No. 7 to No. 5 in St. John's career scoring list with 1,522 points, moving past former teammate Da'Shena Stevens who finished her career with 1,515 points.
Smith is currently fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring with 16.8 points per game, and sixth in rebounding with 7.6 per game. Smith is also second in the conference in blocks per game and second in defensive rebounds per game with 6.2 per game. Smith also leads the conference in average minutes played with 37.1 per game.
Monday is Smith's ninth time on the weekly honor roll over the course of her career.
Next up, St. John's (9-9, 3-3 BIG EAST) plays at Providence for a midweek BIG EAST tilt on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
