QUEENS, N.Y. - Rachel Daly scored two goals and dished out an assist to lift the Red Storm to a 3-0 shutout over DePaul on Saturday evening in front of a season-high 1,759 fans at Belson Stadium. St. John's is now on a three-game win streak and improves to 10-4-3 overall and 4-3-2 in conference action, while DePaul falls to 11-4-2 and 5-3-1 in the BIG EAST.
With her team-best five points against the Blue Demons, Daly now has 43 points on the season and set her second St. John's record in as many weeks. The sophomore forward is the all-time single season leader in points with 43 and goals with 20.
Prior to first kick in Queens, head coach Ian Stone honored seniors Morgan Ritter, Kristina Quan, Sandra Osborn, Michelle Murino, Amy Marron, Casey Marks, Michelle Iannacchino, Rachel Hoffman, Hailey Hemmer, Jen Gibbons, Lauren Ferris and Sarah Ashmore.
"The seniors have been phenomenal. The class is so well rounded. They are great on the field, in the classroom, they are active in the community and three are members of the President's Society," Stone stated. "We are really going to miss them and I am glad we were able to send them off in the right way."
Daly's first goal of the game came at 22:12 when she grabbed a cross from Emily Cubbage on the left side of the box and nailed it towards the net where the ball bounced off the crossbar and in for the score.
St. John's, who has not lost at Belson Stadium in 11 contests, outshot the Blue Demons 16-8 and took seven shots on goal. The Red Storm tallied three goals against a DePaul team that was ranked first in the nation in save percentage (.915) and a goalkeeper, Alejandria Godinez, who was first in the country in save percentage (.913) and had only allowed opponents to score nine goals all season. Godinez fell to 11-4-2 after making four saves and allowing three goals.
The Red Storm took a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute on a goal by Deanna Murino who took aim from 25 yards out and sent the ball sailing into the top left shelf. Daly was credited with the assist on Murino's second goal of the season.
