Diaz Garners Invitation To 2014 adidas MLS Player Combine

QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a standout career as a four-year starter at St. John's, goalkeeper Rafael Diaz has been invited by Major League Soccer to the 2014 adidas MLS Player Combine. A total of 50 NCAA Division I seniors, including just four goalkeepers, were invited by MLS after being selected by a committee of NCAA Division I coaches and MLS representatives. Additional college seniors, underclassmen with Generation adidas contracts and international players will be among other invitees to attend the Combine.
The combine will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from Jan. 10-14 in advance of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, which will take place at noon on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia.
A three-time All-BIG EAST selection and a two-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region honoree, Diaz finished his career as the all-time St. John's record-holder with 32 shutouts. The keeper also compiled a 40-22-9 record to go with a 0.84 goals against average and a .794 save percentage in 72 starts.
Diaz garnered both third team NSCAA All-Northeast Region accolades and second team All-BIG EAST honors as a senior this past season after going 11-7-2 with a 0.80 goals against average and a career-high nine shutouts.
A second team NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection and a first team All-BIG EAST honoree in 2012, Diaz posted a 10-5-4 record to go with a 0.75 goals against average and eight shutouts. Diaz went 9-4-1 with seven shutouts and a 1.03 goals against average as part of an injury-shortened 2011 campaign.
The keeper first broke onto the college scene in 2010, earning second team Soccer America All-Freshman honors and BIG EAST All-Rookie accolades after going 10-6-2 with a 0.84 goals against average and eight shutouts.
