QUEENS, N.Y. - Team Notes
- St. John's shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the floor, the second time this season that the Red Storm has shot at least 50.0 percent. St. John's is 2-0 in such games, including a win against Fordham on Dec. 7 that was highlighted by a 66.1 percent shooting performance.
- The Red Storm scored 53 points in the second half, the highest total in either half this season. St. John's previously had 52 points in both halves against Fordham on Dec. 7 and added a 52-point second half in the season-opener on Nov. 8 against Wisconsin.
- St. John's shot 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from long range, the best percentage in a game since Feb. 19, 2009 when the Red Storm also shot 66.7 percent (2-of-3) against Duke.
- The Red Storm finished -7 on the boards (40-33), but improved to 4-0 this season when being outrebounded with previous wins coming against Bucknell (-3), Monmouth (-9) and Georgia Tech (-6).
- St. John's had four players in double-figures for the second-straight game and now has a 3-0 record this season when at least four players finish in double-figures.
- The Red Storm made a season-high 37 trips to the free throw line and shot 75.7 percent (28-of-37) from the charity stripe. St. John's is 5-2 this season when shooting at least 70.0 percent from the line.
- St. John's finished with eight blocks, the eighth time this season that the squad has recorded at least eight swats. The Red Storm is 7-1 on the year when recording at least eight blocks.
Individual Notes
- D'Angelo Harrison scored a season-high 29 points and made a season-high five 3-pointers en route to becoming the St. John's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 156 treys. Harrison entered the game with 151 3s, tied at the top of the list with Willie Shaw. The five 3-pointers for Harrison were his most since a 6-of-12 performance against Villanova on January 2, 2013. The 29 points scored by the junior marked his most since putting up 36 points in that same Villanova game. Harrison also matched a season-high with four assists.
- Sir'Dominic Pointer shot 4-of-7 from the floor and made 7-of-9 free throws to finish with a career-high 16 points, besting his previous career-mark of 15 against FGCU on Nov. 24, 2012. Pointer has now reached double-figures four times this season and 20 times in his career. The junior also added three steals, his fifth game this season with at least three thefts.
- JaKarr Sampson finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds to post his fourth-career double-double and first since a 21-point, 12-rebound performance against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Dec. 15, 2012. Sampson now has six-career double-figure rebounding games, including an 11-rebound performance earlier this season against Longwood on Nov. 26. Sampson shot 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) from the floor and is shooting 61.0 percent (25-of-41) in the past four games.
- Phil Greene IV reached double-figures for the fifth time this season with a 17-point effort, his most points since a 22-point performance earlier this season against Monmouth on Nov. 22. Greene went 2-of-2 from beyond the arc to record his fourth multi-trey game of the season. The point guard added three assists with one turnover in 33 minutes of action and now has only five turnovers in 283 minutes this season, just one every 56.6 minutes played. Greene also matched a career-high with three steals, a feat he last accomplished against College of Charleston on Nov. 15, 2012.
- Seeing his first action since March 13, 2013, Felix Balamou started and finished with two points and one rebound in 10 minutes.
