Head coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement:
"We rebounded well for the first four minutes of the game but we weren't very pleased with the way we came out. However we recovered well. We turned up the tempo a bit which helped us and I thought we did a great job in a number of areas including the free-throws, getting to the rim and turning them over which was great for us. Nadirah McKenith had a great game, probably one of her best here at St. John's if you look at her stat line. Everybody stepped up and I was really pleased with our bench and a number of our freshman. It was great to see them come out with no drop-off when they came on the floor."
On how he feels the team is progressing:
"I think we have better chemistry, focus and we've made free throws. I think we executed better and these are things that we've talked about all year. We know we have a lot to improve on everyday and everyday is a new battle for us. It was a great team win."
On what the Play for Kay game means to him:
"It's very meaningful. I feel that it's a special event in women's basketball. Kay Yow was a special person and I had the opportunity to see her speak at a tournament when I was an assistant years ago. Her eloquence, impact and her ability to reach young women in our game is obviously profound, so it's a great cause for a great person."
Senior guard Nadirah McKenith
On whether or not her performance in the win over Cincinnati was one of her best games at St. John's:
"I think it was one of my best games. I was aggressive and I didn't turn the ball over, which is something I practice on a daily basis."
On how the game progressed:
"The game opened up for me and I had some quick baskets. I found my teammates and we were able to make the open shots, as well as play team defense."
On what the Red Storm have to do down the stretch:
"We need to make a push towards the end of the season. We have to keep playing aggressive and we know we have to stay aggressive in order to win. Our team defense has picked up over the past few weeks, we're limiting the other team's best players and we're taking care of the ball and attacking the paint."
