St. John's Receiving Votes In 2013 NSCAA Preseason Rankings

QUEENS, N.Y. - Tabbed to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason poll, St. John's is also receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Rankings. The Red Storm just missed a Top 25 ranking, finishing third among the additional schools that received votes in the first edition of the weekly rankings.
The Red Storm schedule for the upcoming season features five teams in the Top 25, including Georgetown (No. 3), Creighton (No. 6), Akron (No. 8), Marquette (No. 12) and Virginia (No. 25). FDU and Xavier are also on the schedule and are first and second, respectively, among the schools that are receiving votes.
Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Rafael Diaz and Preseason BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year Tim Parker lead a group of 14 returning letterwinners, including seven starters, from a squad that finished 10-5-4 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 19th time in program-history.
St. John's opens the 2013 season under the lights at Belson Stadium with an 8 p.m. game against NJIT on Aug. 30. The 18-game regular season schedule includes two of the past four NCAA National Champions and a total of seven teams that participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
