Soccer America Tabs Diaz To Preseason All-America Team

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior goalkeeper Rafael Diaz has been named to the Soccer America Preseason All-America Team, as announced today by the publication. Diaz is one of three keepers on the 25-man team, which features six players from the new-look, 10-team BIG EAST Conference.
The Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, Diaz went 10-5-4 last season with eight shutouts and a 0.75 goals against average. The netminder earned second team NSCAA All-Northeast Region honors a season ago as well as first team All-BIG EAST accolades.
Diaz, who ranks fourth in the all-time St. John's records books with 23 shutouts, also ranks tied for fifth in wins and has posted a 29-15-7 record in three years as a starter.
A BIG EAST All-Rookie selection as a freshman, Diaz also earned second team All-Freshman honors from Soccer America after going 10-6-2 with eight shutouts between the pipes as a rookie.
St. John's opens its 2013 season tonight with an 8 p.m. game against NJIT at Belson Stadium. The game will be carried live in H.D. on ESPN3.
