PHOENIX, Md. - Redshirt senior Jennifer Neville claimed the Tignanelli Towson Invitational individual title on Monday afternoon, carding four birdies in the final round to take a one-stroke victory over Bethune-Cookman's Jennifer Hide as the St. John's women's golf team finished second in the field of 14.
Neville started Monday morning tied for third after carding a 75 (+3) in the first round on Sunday, but quickly turned things around as she finished even on the par-72 course to take first place with a two-day total 147 (+3). The second-round 72 matches a career best for Neville, who now has two first place finishes in her St. John's career.
Defending champion Harin Lee found herself among the top five once again on Monday, carding a pair of birdies on the front nine to match her first round total 76 for a two-day total of 152 (+8) to tie for fourth.
Rachel Carpenter ended in a tie for 33rd after carding an 83, finishing the event with a 162 (+18). Stephanie Eybers rounded out the Red Storm's team score after improving upon her first round 84 to finish with a 79 Monday and end the round with a 163 (+19) to jump 10 spots to tie for 36th.
Junior Cameron Lambertson finished the event as the fifth member of the Red Storm squad, carding a two-day total 170 (+26) for a tie for 54th while Brittany Hurst shot a 90 in each of the two rounds while competing as an individual for a 180 (+36) to tie for 69th.
After claiming the title in 2012, St. John's fell just shy this year as Delaware took first place with a 614 (+38), only eight strokes better than the Red Storm's 622 (+46).
A replay of the final round interviews can be heard on Herb FM Sports Radio (www.herbfm.com) Monday night at 7 p.m.
With the fall season underway, the Red Storm will head to Springdale Country Club in Princeton, N.J. this weekend to compete in the Princeton Invitational from Sept. 14-15.
