Handford Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a stellar performance in the Red Storm's home-opener against Florida, junior guard Aliyyah Handford has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the league office.
An All-BIG EAST First Team selection and a two-time conference player of the week a season ago, Handford garners league recognition after pacing the Red Storm with a terrific all-around performance against the Gators. The Newark, N.J., native tallied a game-high 27 points, converting on 12 of her career-high 25 field goal attempts on the game.
In addition to her scoring touch, Handford filled up the stat sheet in other categories. The WBCA Honorable Mention All-American also pulled down seven boards and grabbed three steals in a full 40 minutes of action.
Working to add a new dimension to her game all offseason, Handford displayed her increased shooting range on Thursday night, hitting just second and third three-pointers of her career.
Handford and the Red Storm will be in action tonight on the road, facing off against Marist at 7 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
