QUEENS, N.Y. - D'Angelo Harrison was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds to lead St. John's (6-1) to a pair of wins at Syracuse and against Niagara. It is the 16th time the senior guard earned a BIG EAST weekly honor and the third time he has been named Player of the Week.
Harrison scored a game-high 24 points on Saturday against the Orange to help lead St. John's to its first victory at the Carrier Dome in over 15 years. The win snapped Syracuse's 55-game home win streak in non-conference action. The 6-foot-4 guard buried 4-of-6 3-point attempts and converted all eight of his free-throws before the largest crowd in college basketball this season (24,884). His fourth three of the contest elevated Harrison into eighth place on St. John's career scoring list and now has 1,730 points in his four years with the Red Storm.
Earlier in the week, Harrison led the Red Storm with 16 points and nine rebounds en route to a 70-57 victory over Niagara. He sank 6-of-13 field goal attempts and went 3-for-4 at the line.
Over this two game stretch, Harrison shot 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from the field, 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from downtown and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) at the free-throw line. He has scored double-figures in all seven games this season and ranks second in the BIG EAST averaging 18.4 points per game. He also stands in the top-5 of the conference in rebounding (8.1 rpg), 3-point field goals made (16), and he leads the BIG EAST in minutes per game (34.7).
Harrison was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll last week after averaging 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds against Minnesota and Gonzaga. He was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Dec. 23, 2013 and March 5, 2014, and garnered Honor Roll recognition four times last season. Harrison was as six time honoree in 2012-13 and earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors and one Honor Roll nod in 2011-12.
