QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping lead St. John's to an Opening Day shutout against Pepperdine, redshirt senior James Lomangino has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Lomangino combined with three relievers in a 2-0 win against the Waves, the first Opening Day shutout tossed by St. John's since 1981.
Lomangino threw 5.0 shutout frames and settled for a no-decision after striking out three batters, while walking just one. The Waves batted .211 against the righty, who surrendered just four singles on the day.
The only BIG EAST starter to toss at least 5.0 scoreless innings on Opening Weekend, Lomangino combined with relievers Joey Christopher (1.2 innings pitched), Chris Kalica (1.1 IP) and Thomas Hackimer (1.0 IP) on the shutout effort.
St. John's (1-2) returns to action on Feb. 21 with a 4 p.m. game against Old Dominion (1-2) as part of the ODU Baseball Tournament. The Red Storm will also play Saint Joseph's (0-0) on Feb. 22 and Kentucky (2-1) on Feb. 23 as part of the tournament.
