Head coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement:
Obviously when you don't come out with a victory it's a little disappointing. It was a tale of two halves and we didn't do the little things we needed to do to win today. We came out fantastic. I thought that was the best we've played in a first half, but we gave them some momentum going into the half which gave them a little bit of life to come back. Credit to Marquette who made it difficult for us and made shots tonight. We have a game on Saturday with the opportunity to do something and we'll be ready for that.
On the team's consistency on both ends of the floor:
"We thought about our consistency after the game and how we go through long stretches where offensively we aren't very good. Our defense has really kept us in games and given us opportunities to win. There's been many games this year where we've done that and we've been able to win because we've defended. In the last few games we haven't done that because we haven't played a full 40 minutes of defense. We're searching for consistency over time and we're going to continue to work on that with the time that we left."
On what the team's attitude will be moving forward:
"Our goal every year is to win a BIG EAST Championship and this year we've put ourselves into a position to do that. That's the exciting part of it. We still have an opportunity to do that going into our last two games. Our main concern now is to get back to where we need to be to win games. We've said all along that we want to be the benchmark of the newly created BIG EAST and we've done that all year. The body of work is there. But we have to be concerned now with getting ready for the next game as move toward our goal."
Sophomore Guard Danaejah Grant
On the team's energy in the second half:
"It was not purposely (the drop). We weren't down on ourselves; I just feel like in the second half we didn't come out with that fire like we did in the first half. Credit to Marquette, but we just did not come out the way we prepared to."
Sophomore guard Aliyyah Handford
On Marquette's improvement from the first half to the second half:
"They stopped us from going in transition. We couldn't stop them from shooting the three and we weren't getting out on them."
On getting groove back before the postseason:
"I think we just have to practice and work really hard to be focused for the next two games because they are very important. We have to just get at it and come out with a win."
