Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement:
"What a game. What a great basketball game and atmosphere. It's what tournaments are all about and what the postseason is all about. I'm so proud of our ladies and how we were able to come back from some difficult spots in the game. Even going into the half, I was very happy with what we were doing. I thought we were defending well and our energy level was what we had been doing all year. And I thought we got the spark we needed in the second half."
"I was just really happy to be able to come out with an effort like that, especially playing the day before. This is what we have been building for all year. Creighton is a tremendous program and coach [Jim] Flanery is someone I have so much respect for, and those kids played as hard as anything. But what a great game and atmosphere, especially for the first time coming out here in Chicago."
On being down late in the game:
"We talked about a sense of urgency and the house being on fire a little bit. We got better opportunities to score because we were continuing to stay aggressive to the rim. I credit our players for being able to stay the course. And as much as we had some dry spells offensively, we defended - we got stops over and over. That's what allowed us to stay in the game."
On being able to limit BIG EAST Player of the Year Marissa Janning:
"She's an unbelievable player, there's a reason she was BIG EAST Player of the Year. You do what you can to limit some of the things she likes to do. You can test her the best you can, but you defend her as a team. There's no one person that's going to be able to limit her and that's something we stressed going into the game and we stressed all year is team defense. I think we did a great job making her take shots in tough spots and I thought we kept her off-balance throughout the game. She's going to score, she's a great player. But I thought we did a great job funneling her to certain spots throughout the game. And we put multiple people on her too, she runs you all over the floor. She has a motor like no one I've seen in a long time."
