QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman Kaitlin Fitzgerald earned her second consecutive BIG EAST Player of the Week honor after an impressive weekend at the Delaware Spring Invitational. Senior Ashley Beza also made the list this week, earning BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll accolades after a strong weekend in the circle for the Red Storm.
Fitzgerald finished the Delaware Spring Invitational batting .417 (5-for-12) with a pair of doubles, six RBI, two walks and a sac fly after hitting a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh against Robert Morris to give the Red Storm a 3-2 victory on Saturday. The freshman earned both the game-tying and game-winning RBI in that game, leading the Red Storm to a 3-1 record this weekend.
Beza earned her third career honors after finishing the weekend 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA, throwing a pair of complete game, three-hit shutouts against Robert Morris and Cornell at the Delaware Spring Invitational. The senior finished with only two runs in 17.0 innings of work, striking out 10 batters while holding opponents to a .197 average. Her relief appearance on Friday also marked the 100th career appearance as a member of the Red Storm pitching staff.
With its 24-game road trip over five tournaments now completed, the Red Storm will head home to Queens to host Manhattan in a home-opener doubleheader on March 19 with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
