QUEENS, N.Y. - Recent St. John's graduates Rachel Carpenter and Stephanie Eybers were named 2014 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars last week, joining 19 other women's golfers from the BIG EAST in the national honors.
This year, the WGCA named 664 student-athletes across NCAA Division I, II and III who posted a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Leading the way among BIG EAST schools was Xavier, with six, followed by four from Creighton and three from each Butler, Georgetown and Seton Hall.
Carpenter rounded out her collegiate career with her first ever individual title in the 2013-14 season, taking first place at the St. John's Invitational on Oct. 8 after carding back-to-back rounds of 75. The redshirt senior also shot a career-best round of 72 in the second round of the Princeton Invitational on Sept. 14.
Eybers competed in all nine events for the Red Storm in her senior campaign, finishing the year with a stroke average of 81.14 that included a fall average of 79.44. The senior earned back-to-back 14th place finishes at the St. John's Invitational (78-82-160) and the Rutgers Women's Invitational (77-77-154) to round out the fall season with her best finish of the year.
