St. John's Travels To Towson For Tiger Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2014) - St. John's (9-3) will hit the road for its final tournament of the regular season - the Towson Tiger Invitational in Towson, Md. The Red Storm will play a doubleheader on Friday, Sept. 19 against North Dakota State at 10 a.m., and Kent State at 5 p.m., respectively. St. John's will conclude the weekend Saturday at 2 p.m. against host-school Towson.

SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA STATE (4-6)
North Dakota State sophomore middle blocker Emily Minnick registered a career-high 20 kills to lead the Bison at the CEFCU Classic final.
Minnick has a .295 attacking percentage and is second on the team in kills with 2.74 per set.
Junior outside hitter Jenni Fassbender leads the team in kills per set with 3.38, while sophomore setter Monica Claxton has controlled the offense dishing out 249 assists.
Kari Thompson has a 54-51 record entering her fourth full season as the Bison head coach.
NDSU has won three of its last four matches and are averaging 12.3 kills per set and 16 digs per set.
SCOUTING KENT STATE (8-2)
Kent State completed its third consecutive winning weekend to start the season by defeating Montana, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Mountaineer Invitational.
Kent State senior outside hitter Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola leads the team in kills per set (3.33), while Freshman setter Britteny Jakscht is averaging 8.42 assists per set and has a team-high 11 service aces.
Challen Geraghty had lead the defense with 156 digs on the season.
Don Gromala enters his third year as the head coach at Kent State.
The Golden Flashes are averaging 12.6 kills per set and 15.1 digs per set.
SCOUTING TOWSON (10-1)
Towson lost its first match of the season last week in straight sets to Alabama.
Last week, senior outside hitter Saitaua Iosia was names the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Volleyball Offensive Player of the week. She now has marked 131 kills (4.52 per set) and is averaging a .412 hitting percentage. She also leads the team in service aces with 18.
Junior outside hitter Haley Pa'akaula is second on the team in kills and is averaging 3.31 kills per set.
The offense is controlled by junior Aimee Schubert and freshman Barbara Lopez, who both have over 100 assists on the season.
The Tigers have a .325 attacking average and are holding its opponents to a .059 percentage.
Don Metil became the new Tiger head coach in the spring of 2013.
RED STORM PROTECTS THIS HOUSE WITH 3-0 WIN OVER LA SALLE
St. John's improved to 9-3 on the season after defeating a feisty La Salle team (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) 3-0 on Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm hit .265 and collected 42 assists as a team, while the Explorers hit .167 and only dished out 30 assists. This marked the first meeting between the two schools and featured head coach Joanne Persico coaching against one of her former players - Caitlin Rimgaila.
WACHOWICZ NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Senior Aleksandra Wachowicz was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In a 3-1 week for the Red Storm (8-3), Wachowicz recorded 5.27 kills per set on a .382 attacking percentage.
She led the team in kills in all four of its matches, including a season-high 25 in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Dartmouth in the opening match of the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic Friday afternoon.
This is the first time this season and fourth time in her career that Wachowicz has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

St. John's will begin BIG EAST play on the road against Villanova in a midweek match on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The Red Storm lost its last match to the Wildcats, 3-1, on October 18, 2013 in Villanova, Pa. Villanova leads the all-time series by only one (12-11).
