St. John's Prepares for Mountaineer Intercollegiate

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The St. John's golf team close out its fall season in Bridgeport, W.Va., as the Red Storm gears for the two-day, 36-hole, Mountaineer Intercollegiate. The tournament will begin Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Leading St. John's into the Mountainner Intercollegiate is freshman Seung Yub Baek, while Troy Evans fills the second slot. Evans tied for 31st in his last outing after carding a 76-73-74--223 (+7) at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate. Joining the freshmen will be Michael Conforti, Matthew Sweeney and Jonathan Spicci in the starting lineup.
About the Mountaineer Intercollegiate:
Due to weather concerns, changes have been made to the format of the Mountianeer Intercollegiate. The two-day event was shortened from 54 to 36-holes with play beginning Monday at 11:30 a.m. Players will then return to the course on Tuesday at 9 a.m. for the final round and conclusion of the tournament.
Ranked No. 45 on Golf Digest's ranking of America's Greatest Courses and No. 9 on Golf Week's ranking of Best Modern Courses, the Pete Dye Golf Club is spread across 250 acres in the Appalachian Mountains. Pete Dye played host to the PGA Tour/web.com tournament from 2004-09 as it features a par-72, 7,353-yard layout with a slope of 144 and a handicap rating of 75.7.
Five of the 14 programs competing are in the top-100 of GolfWeek's most recent rankings (October 13). Penn State leads the bunch coming in at No. 15 as UConn (No. 67), Missouri (No. 73), Miami (OH, No. 89) and Bowling Green (No. 100) is ranked in the top-100. Also participating in the tournament is Cincinnati, Akron, Mississippi State, Toledo, Towson, Marshall, Seton Hall and St. John's and West Virginia.
