- St. John's held UMBC to just 26.9 percent shooting (18-of-67). The defensive effort marked the first time holding an opponent below 30.0 percent since limiting LIU Brooklyn to just 29.6 percent (21-of-71) shooting on Nov. 19, 2014. Through two games, the Red Storm has allowed opponents to shoot just 29.1 percent (37-of-127) from the floor.
- St. John's shot a season-best 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor, its best performance since shooting 51.8 percent against Xavier last season on Feb. 14, 2015.
- The Red Storm totaled a season-high 11 blocks, its most since a 10-block effort against Xavier on Feb. 23, 2015.
Individual Notes
- Federico Mussini matched a career-high with 18 points to lead all scorers for the second time in as many games this season. Mussini also dished out a career-high six assists and finished 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
- Durand Johnson scored in double-figures for the second time in as many games with a season-high 15-point effort. Johnson scored all 15 points in the second half.
- Ron Mvouika finished with 16 points to reach double-figures for the first time in a Red Storm uniform. The graduate student finished 4-of-4 from long range.
- Yankuba Sima pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and matched a career-high with eight points. Sima also had a career-high four blocks.
- Christian Jones grabbed a career-best seven rebounds and also added seven points in a career-high 32 minutes on the floor.
- Darien Williams scored a career-high five points and pulled down a career-high four rebounds in a career-high 25 minutes.
- Elijah Holifield went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to register his first-career point.
- Abdul Dial grabbed one rebound in one minute of action in his collegiate-debut.
