St. John's Set to Face Providence at Home Friday

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's (15-13, 5-8 BIG EAST) looks to get back in the win column this week as the Red Storm take on Providence (10-17, 1-12 BIG EAST) Friday in Carnesecca Arena at 7 p.m.
The Red Storm currently sit in sixth place in the conference standings and has won eight-consecutive matches against the Friars, including a 3-0 win at Providence in October.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (10-17, 1-12 BIG EAST)
- The Friars currently rank fourth in the conference in service aces per set (1.47).
- Freshman Allison Impellizeri and Fitzgerald lead the offensive attack for the Friars. Impellizeri has a .307 attacking percentage, which is ninth in the conference, while Fitzgerald ranks seventh in the league in kills per set (3.37).
- Senior Jordan Wiesler directs the offense for Providence with her 9.54 assists per set average, which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST.
- Margot Royer-Johnson is currently in her 16th season as the Friars' head coach.
- St. Johns lead the all-time series 11-4 against Providence, including winning the last eight meetings.
CAST RECORDS 16 KILLS IN 3-1 LOSS TO BUTLER
- St. John's fell short of a comeback victory at home Saturday night against Butler, as the Red Storm lost a hard fought match to the Bulldogs, 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25).
Sophomore Julia Cast paced the Red Storm with 16 kills with a match-leading .483 attacking percentage, while also tallying three blocks and two service aces.
For the first time this season, St. John's has lost three consecutive matches. However, the Red Storm still remain in the hunt to make the BIG EAST Championship with five matches left in the regular season.
SANTIAGO POSTS SECOND DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN 3-1 LOSS TO XAVIER
- Despite out-digging Xavier 77-65, St. John's dropped a tough match, 3-1 (29-27, 21-25, 23-25, 21-25) to the Musketeers Friday night in Carnesecca Arena.
- The Red Storm fell to 15-12 overall and 5-7 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier improved to 12-10 and 8-3 in league action.
St. John's had four players finish in double-digits in both kills and digs. Senior Yaidy Santiago paced the Red Storm with her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and a career-high 19 digs.

- With 2.41 blocks per set, St. John's is second in the BIG EAST and 55th in the NCAA.

COACHES CORNER
- Head coach Joanne Persico notched her 400th career victory against Providence last season with a straight-sets win on Oct. 4, 2014 at Carnesecca Arena.
- Persico is the all-time winningest coach in St. John's volleyball history with over 400 victories.
- Persico, the 2006 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, also led the Red Storm to a 3-0 victory at Providence on Oct. 10, 2015.

St. John's will continue its homestand as the Red Storm will conclude their home-and-home series with Marquette and DePaul. On Saturday, Nov. 14, St. John's will host the Golden Eagles at 2p.m., before facing DePaul Sunday on Senior Day at 2 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
