QUEENS, N.Y. - After averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds during the Red Storm's two-game road swing this past weekend, junior guard Danaejah Grant has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the league office. Grant earns her third weekly honor from the conference this season, including her second honor roll nod.
A native of Piscataway, N.J., Grant also averaged three assists, two steals and five offensive rebounds while playing 38.5 minutes per game in last week's games, which saw St. John's notch a 64-52 win at Marquette on Friday before falling at RV/RV DePaul, 82-55, on Sunday.
Against the Golden Eagles, Grant tallied 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. The junior scored half of her points during a pivotal 16-0 second-half run by the Red Storm while also contributing three assists and two steals in 37 minutes of action.
After falling just one rebound shy of a double-double at Marquette, Grant led St. John's with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday's loss to notch her third double-double of the season. Playing every minute of the contest, the guard made 8-of-19 field goal attempts while tallying a team-high three assists to go with two steals and four offensive rebounds.
Grant was previously named to the Dec. 15 BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 17 points and six rebounds in a pair of wins over UCF and NJIT, and was also named the first BIG EAST Women's Player of the Week of the campaign after scoring a career-high 30 points in a season-opening victory at Yale.
The Red Storm will return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, hosting Villanova in its annual Play4Kay game, benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
