SJU Wins First Two Home Matches Of The Spring Season

QUEENS, N.Y.-The St. John's women's tennis team opened up its home season with wins against LIU Brooklyn and Georgetown this week. The team earned their second win of the season against LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday at the USTA Tennis Center. The Red Storm swept the Blackbirds 7-0.
Senior Anastasia Polyakova won her match in the No. 1 singles spot in a third set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Following its win on Wednesday, the Red Storm beat Georgetown on Friday at the USTA Tennis Center, 6-1, for its first conference victory of the season. The freshmen doubles duo of Zofia Stanisz and Jaide Collins won their third consecutive match of the season.
Sophomore Anna Morozova won her fourth match in a row in the No. 2 singles spot 6-4, 6-2 which puts her 4-0 on the season in singles matches.
On Morozova's performance thus far, head coach Eric Rebhuhn said, "Anna had a nice freshman year and has started her sophomore year on a roll, competing hard and fighting until the end of the match."
Up next, the Red Storm takes on the Panthers of Florida International Saturday night. FIU is 2-1 on the season coming off a loss against Penn.
