NEW YORK - One of the greatest players to ever don the Red and White, St. John's alumna Nadirah McKenith has re-signed with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx, the team announced on Friday. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not made public.
McKenith, who was the first St. John's player ever taken in the WNBA Draft with the 17th overall pick in 2013, was originally signed by Minnesota on June 24, 2014, and went on to appear in six games, averaging 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds per contest. The Lynx advanced to the Western Conference Finals before falling to eventual champion Phoenix in three games.
McKenith spent her first WNBA season with the Washington Mystics in 2013, averaging 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist and 8.8 minutes per game in 32 appearances.
The 12th- leading scorer in program history, McKenith's time at St. John's featured some of the most successful seasons in program history. The Red Storm made it to the Big Dance in all four of McKenith's season in Queens, highlighted by the team's memorable run to the Sweet 16 during her junior year.
In addition to being one of the most successful scorers in Red Storm history, McKenith is also the program's all-time assist leader, dishing out 605 helpers during her time at St. John's. During her senior year in 2012-13, she led the BIG EAST with 165 assists.
Despite standing just 5-7, McKenith also graduated as one of top rebounders in program history, finishing 10th on the all-time list in that category.
McKenith and the Lynx will kick off their season on June 5 at home against Tulsa.
