QUEENS, N.Y. - One of the greatest players to ever take the floor at Carnesecca Arena, former St. John's standout Nadirah McKenith has signed a contract to play with CCC Polkowice, a Polish professional team, for the upcoming season.
McKenith, who became the first WNBA Draft pick in program history when she was selected 17th overall by the Washington Mystics in 2013, ranks at or near the top of the St. John's record book in a number of categories. The Newark, N.J., native is the Red Storm's all-time assists leader with 605 and ranks second on the all-time steals list with 267. In addition, she ranks 12th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,293 points.
In McKenith's four years at St. John's, the Red Storm never missed an NCAA Tournament. The pinnacle of the team's success during her tenure came in 2012, when McKenith's efforts helped lead the Red Storm to its first Sweet 16 in program history. In the opening round against Creighton, McKenith converted on a last-second layup to secure the victory. In the following game against Oklahoma, McKenith registered 13 points, seven assists and two steals to punch St. John's ticket to the regional semifinal.
McKenith has played two seasons in the WNBA, the first with the Mystics and the second with the Minnesota Lynx. With Washington in 2013, McKenith made 32 appearances, averaging 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. In 2014, McKenith helped the Lynx advance to the Western Conference Finals before falling to eventual champion Phoenix in three games.
This will be McKenith's third stint overseas after playing in Israel last season and Spain in 2013-14.
