QUEENS, N.Y. - The BIG EAST Conference released its 2015-16 women's basketball schedule this afternoon, finalizing the Red Storm's slate for the upcoming season.
Of the Red Storm's 29 regular season games, seven will be broadcast on national television, with six of those contests being aired on the FOX Sports family of networks. A vast majority of the remaining contests will be broadcast on either ESPN3 or the BIG EAST Digital Network. The full broadcast schedule for these games will be released at a later date, but Red Storm fans can rest assured knowing that all league contests not carried on the FOX Sports family of networks will be available on BEDN.
The Red Storm's 2015-16 conference campaign will begin on Tues., Dec. 29, when Coach Joe Tartamella's squad travels to Omaha, Neb., for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Creighton Bluejays. The game will be the second nationally televised contest of the season on FS2 for the Red Storm, as the team's Nov. 29 date with USF will also be carried on the network. Last season, the Red Storm put forth one of their most dominant displays of the year at D.J. Sokol Arena, limiting the Bluejays to a season-low 38 points en route to a 23-point victory.
Two days later, the Red Storm will travel back across the country to face off against Providence in a New Year's Eve matinee at 1 p.m. The matchup will come a year and a day after the last meeting between the two programs in Alumni Hall, a game that saw the Red Storm unleash a massive 21-4 second-half run to down the Friars on their home court.
The Red Storm will kick off 2016 inside the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena, welcoming reigning conference champion DePaul to Queens on Sun., Jan. 3. The game, which is set to tip off at 5 p.m., will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
St. John's will play the second of three-consecutive home contests two days later, hosting Marquette on Tues., Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles were one of three BIG EAST opponents that St. John's swept in the regular season last year, winning both games by double digits.
The Red Storm will close out its homestand the following weekend, welcoming cross-river rival Seton Hall to Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. When the two teams met in Queens a year ago, Amber Thompson recorded 20 rebounds to lead the Red Storm to its first victory over a ranked opponent at Carnesecca Arena since 2012.
Following nearly a week off after its contest with the Pirates, the Red Storm will once again hit the road, heading to our nation's capital for a Friday night tilt with Georgetown on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. Last season, the Red Storm won both of its contests with the Hoyas.
St. John's will remain on the road following its match up with the Hoyas, traveling to The City of Brotherly Love for a Sunday afternoon contest with Villanova. The Red Storm and Wildcats met on three occasions last year, splitting the regular season series before Villanova downed St. John's in the WNIT Round of 16.
The Red Storm returns home the following weekend, playing host to Butler on Fri., Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. before welcoming Xavier to Carnesecca Arena on Sun., Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. The Red Storm split with both of these squads last season, winning its home game with Xavier and claiming victory at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in the final weekend of the regular season.
After that, the Red Storm begins its longest road stretch of the conference season, playing three-straight games away from its home floor. The swing begins in Milwaukee on Jan. 29, when St. John's takes on Marquette inside the Al McGuire Center at 8 p.m. Two days later, the Red Storm makes its first trip of the season to The Windy City, facing off against DePaul at 1 p.m. on FS2. Following a week off, St. John's will gear up for its second meeting of the season with Seton Hall. Taking place at Walsh Gymnasium, the contest with the Pirates will be broadcast live on FS1.
The following Friday, the Red Storm will play its third-straight game on national television, as the team's home tilt with Villanova will be aired at 8 p.m. on FS1. Two days later on Feb. 14, the Red Storm welcomes Georgetown to Carnesecca Arena for a 2 p.m. match up.
The Red Storm will make its final road trip of the 2015-16 regular season the following weekend, traveling to the Midwest for a pair of games with Xavier and Butler. St. John's will face off against the Musketeers on Fri., Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. before traveling to Indianapolis for a 2 p.m. tilt with Butler on Sun., Feb. 21.
St. John's will close out its BIG EAST slate at home, welcoming Providence to Carnesecca Arena on Fri., Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. before finishing up the regular season with a 3 p.m. tilt against Creighton on Feb. 28. The game against the Bluejays will be aired nationally on FS2.
