Karin Palgutova Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Karin Palgutova was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In a 4-0 week for the Red Storm, Palgutova racked up 4.80 kills per set with a .337 attacking percentage.
The Red Storm began the week with a 3-0 home victory against Iona before traveling to California and getting wins against Bethune-Cookman (3-0), Fresno State (3-1) and Saint Mary's (3-2).
Palgutova collected her second double-double of the season at the Saint Mary's Invitational against the Gaels. She notched a career high 31 kills with a .362 hitting percentage, while also picking up 16 digs and three blocks.
The native of Bratislava, Slovakia also recorded 2.53 digs per set during the week. She held the match lead in kills in all four of the Red Storm victories and currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.92).
This is Palgutova's fourth-career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. She was named BIG EAST Player of the Week in consecutive weeks to begin the 2014 season (Sept. 1 and Sept. 8). Palgutova received her first award on Sept. 16, 2013.
UP NEXT
St. John's will return home on Sept. 11-12 to host the 2015 Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic which features four matches in two days at Carnesecca Arena and Taffner Field House. The Red Storm will open things up with a match against George Mason and Central Connecticut State on Sept. 11 before rounding things out against Cornell and San Francisco on Sept. 12.
