QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second-straight week, Aliyyah Handford has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the league office.
Handford led the way for the Red Storm in a 2-1 week to begin league play, averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.7 steals per contest.
The week also had plenty of historical significance for Handford, as she jumped from fifth place to second place on the program's career scoring list.
The senior guard from Newark, N.J., began the week with an 18-point, seven-assist effort against Creighton, setting a new career-high for helpers in a game and moving past Shenneika Smith into fourth place on the St. John's career points ledger.
Against Providence on New Year's Eve, Handford tallied 23 points, six steals and four rebounds, jumping Cozette Ballentine and Debbie Beckford to move into second place on the St. John's all-time scoring list.
Facing off against nationally ranked DePaul on Sunday, Handford recorded 14 points and seven rebounds, as the Red Storm nearly completed a 25-point comeback against the No. 25/24 Blue Demons.
Handford and the Red Storm will be back in action on Tuesday night, welcoming Marquette to Carnesecca Arena for a 7 p.m. contest on BIG EAST Digital Network.
