QUEENS, N.Y. - After propelling the Red Storm to its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2013 with one goal apiece against No. 11/14 Butler on Saturday, Harry Cooksley and Alistair Johnston have been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
These recognitions mark the first career BIG EAST Weekly Awards for both Cooksley and Johnston. Cooksley has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll before; however, finding a spot on that list on Sept. 5.
In addition to his game-winner against the Bulldogs, Cooksley also added the Red Storm's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Loyola Maryland on Tuesday, marking the second time this season that the junior from London has scored in consecutive games.
The transfer from Limestone College netted one for the highlight reel in the 85th minute against Butler, dribbling through a number of Bulldog defenders before blasting a shot past the keeper to give his team a decisive 2-1 lead against the no. 11 team in the nation.
Cooksley now has four goals on the season to go along with his BIG EAST leading six assists.
Johnston, a rookie from Aurora, Ontario, put the Red Storm on the board in the 38th minute against the Bulldogs on Saturday night, leaping to win a header that he then put on target and beyond the reach of the keeper. Johnston, who scored three goals in the Johnnies' first four games of the season, now has four tallies on the campaign, good enough for third among BIG EAST freshmen.
Cooksley, Johnston and the rest of the Red Storm will return to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to the nation's capital for a 1 p.m. matchup with Georgetown on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
