St. John's to Visit Fordham on Tuesday

QUEENS, N.Y. - Coming off three-straight games of holding opponents to 46 points or less, the St. John's women's basketball team travels to the Bronx to take on in-state rival Fordham at Rose Hill Gym Tuesday night.
Tuesday's game will be streamed live on FordhamSports.com. Mike Watts and Kenny Ducey will have the call. First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
NEWS & NOTES
With a win over Rutgers in its last outing, St. John's became the fourth team in the current BIG EAST to win 700 games as a program. St. John's joins DePaul (815), Creighton (709) and Villanova (790) in the 700-win club.
Over its last three games, the St. John's defense has been on a mission, holding opponents to just 40.3 points per game. From the floor, opponents shot just 26.7 percent against the Johnnies and committed 66 turnovers. Offensively, the Red Storm outscored Albany, Lafayette and Rutgers by a combined 62 points and held a margin of victory of 20.6 points per game.
During the Red Storm's current three-game win streak, Jade Walker and Akina Wellere have led the offense. Walker is averaging 11.7 points per game, while Wellere is averaging 10.0.
Wellere has been on fire from three-point range, hitting 8-of-11 from long distance over the past three games. The sophomore hit 6-of-7 from deep in the Red Storm's runaway win over Rutgers, pouring in a game-high 19 points in the process. For her efforts, Wellere was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career, it was announced Monday.
• Aaliyah Lewis continues to showcase her passing skills. The senior now sits in second place in the BIG EAST with 5.1 dimes per contest and her 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks seventh in the conference.
• Following Tuesday's contest at Fordham, the Johnnies return to Queens for a pair of home games against Wagner (Dec. 17) and James Madison (Dec. 21) to close out the non-conference portion of the 2016-17 slate.
SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham enters play on Tuesday with an overall record of 7-3. The Rams are coming off a 57-55 win over Princeton in their last outing.
Fordham is currently 6-0 at home this season with wins over Furman, Little Rock, Albany, Duquesne, Boston College and Princeton.
The Rams are led by G'mrice Davis, who is averaging 12.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in 32.2 minutes per game. Davis is shooting 47.5 percent from the floor (48-for-101).
As a team, Fordham is shooting 38.4 percent from the floor and has hit 31.5 percent of its tries from behind the arc. On the glass, the Rams are being out-rebounded by 1.1 boards per game.
• Additionally, Fordham is committing 16.5 turnovers per game compared to 11.7 assists per contest.
ST. JOHN'S vs. FORDHAM -- THE SERIES
Tuesday's matchup will mark the 24th meeting all-time between St. John's and Fordham in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 season.
• Tuesday's meeting will be the first since the Johnnies defeated the Rams, 77-63, to advance to the WNIT Round of 16 during the 2014-15 campaign.
• In all, St. John's holds an 18-5 advantage over its New York rivals and has won the last two meetings.
• The Red Storm is 7-2 all-time against Fordham in games played at Rose Hill Gym.
