QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a pair of stellar efforts in a split weekend for the Red Storm, Danaejah Grant has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, it was announced this morning by the league office.
This is Grant's second Player of the Week honor from the BIG EAST this season, as she also garnered the accolade on Nov. 30. In addition, she has been named to the conference's weekly honor roll six times during the 2015-16 campaign.
Grant averaged 28.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in contests against Xavier and Butler, converting on 55.6 percent of her shots in the process. The senior guard also shot 40.0 percent from beyond the arc, 70.0 percent from the charity stripe and surrendered only one turnover in 76 minutes of action.
On Friday against the Musketeers, Grant tied a season-high with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor. The Piscataway, N.J., native also grabbed six boards and swiped two steals.
Two days later at Butler, Grant made 10 of her 17 tries from the field, including a pair of treys, to lead the Red Storm with 27 points in a loss to the Bulldogs. Grant also corralled 11 boards for the Red Storm, registering her team-best fourth double-double of the season.
Currently tied with Seton Hall and Villanova for second place in the BIG EAST standings, St. John's has two regular season games remaining, both of which will be played at home. The Red Storm will host Providence on Friday at 11 a.m. for the team's annual Field Trip Day before closing out the schedule with a Sunday afternoon matinee against Creighton at 3 p.m. That contest is set to tip at 3 p.m.
