QUEENS, N.Y. -- After a sensational weekend at the plate, sophomore Savannah Warren earned her first-career BIG EAST Player of the Week award, as announced by the conference offices Monday afternoon.
Warren helped St. John's capture its 12th BIG EAST series in a row after the Red Storm took two of three from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The catcher/third baseman hit .625 with seven RBI and three runs plated against the Hoyas.
In the conference opener, Warren totaled a career-high five RBI and erased a 5-3 deficit in the fourth with one swing of the bat as she hit her first grand slam to lift the Red Storm to victory. The sophomore slugged 1.125 over the three-game set, recording a hit in every game to go with three walks.
St. John's (15-13, 2-1 BIG EAST) is back in action tomorrow at Red Storm Field when Wagner heads to Queens for a midweek showdown. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3 with Ralph Bednarczyk and D.J. Sixsmith providing coverage.
