QUEENS, N.Y. -- The St. John's softball team (19-17, 3-5 BIG EAST) returns to BIG EAST action this weekend when the team travels to Providence, R.I., for a three-game series against the Friars (14-20, 1-7 BIG EAST).
Leading Off
The Red Storm opens play with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
The two squads will close out the series on Sunday at noon.
Last weekend, St. John's split a rain-shortened two-game series against Butler taking the opener, 6-4, before being edged in the finale, 3-2.
On Wednesday, Providence shutout Bryant, 7-0, to improve its overall mark to 14-20 on the season. In their last 10 games, the Friars are 2-8 with a 1-7 conference record.
All three games can be seen for a small fee on Friar All-Access.
Series History
St. John's owns a 43-37 overall record against Providence.
The Red Storm has won six of its last seven games against Providence.
St. John's has matched up with the Friars more than any other opponent in program history, with its first showdown coming in 1981.
Last season, the Red Storm swept a three-game series against Providence, outscoring them 26-2 in those contests.

The Red Storm has recorded more hits (+26), runs (+25), doubles (+22) and fewer strikeouts (-46) than its opponents.
In her last 15.0 innings, Grace Kramer won two games and has registered 25 strikeouts with a 1.87 ERA.
Freshman Madison Morris has yet to lose a game this season, boasting a 4-0 record with 37 strikeouts over 52.0 innings.
During BIG EAST play (eight games), Hannah Anderson is batting a team-high .417 and has scored six times with five stolen bases.
Juniors Kaitlyn Wilkens and Brittany Garcia have combined for 14 RBI in league play.
In eight conference games, Savannah Warren is hitting .409 and leads the team in home runs (2), RBI (8) and runs scored (6).
Monique Landini has picked up her production in the last 15 games, hitting .343 (12-for-35) with eight RBI and eight runs scored.
Brittany Garcia leads the offensive attack with a team-high .353 batting average and has registered 11 doubles, 22 RBI and 18 runs.
SCOUTING REPORT: Providence Friars (14-20, 1-7 BIG EAST)
Providence snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory in its last game over Bryant, 7-0. The Friars are 2-8 in their last 10 games.
Against Bryant, freshman righty Megan McCune tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. Emma Lee recorded two RBI.
As a team, the Friars are hitting at a .280 clip with 11 home runs and 19 stolen bases.
The offense features three hitters batting at least .340, including freshman outfielder Emma Lee who is second in the BIG EAST with a .420 batting average.
Senior outfielder Kiki Baldassari is batting .379 and leads the team in stolen bases with nine.
Junior utility player Nicole Lundstrom leads the team in home runs (3) and RBI (27).
The Friars hold a 4.38 ERA and have 131 strikeouts this season.
McCune has posted a team-low 2.78 ERA, while holding hitters to a .242 batting average.
Sophomore righty Christina Ramirez leads the pitching staff in wins (6), innings pitched (77.2) and strikeouts (52). She has a 6-6 record with a 4.33 ERA.
In its Last Series (Against Butler)
Last weekend, St. John's split a rain-shortened, two-game series against Butler at Red Storm Field, winning, 6-4, before falling, 3-2.
Grace Kramer went 1-1 against Butler with a 2.80 ERA in 10.0 innings and had 13 strikeouts.
Hannah Anderson led the offensive attack with a.600 batting average.
Savannah Warren batted .400, scored twice and hit a home run.
Brittany Garcia and Christina Melendez each scored and drove in two runs, while Melendez hit a home run.
Around the BIG EAST (as of 4/15/16)
St. John's offense is third in both slugging (.416) and on-base percentage (.380), and fourth in batting average (.284).
The pitching staff is third in strikeouts (190) and opposing batting average (.262), and fourth in ERA (3.86).
Defensively, St. John's holds the second best fielding percentage (.968) in the conference and is third in stolen bases with 44 swiped bags.
Madison Morris is eighth in ERA (3.23) and second in opposing batting average (.211).
Grace Kramer is ranked fifth in wins (10), sixth in strikeouts (95), seventh in innings pitched (95.0) and 10th in ERA (3.83).
Brittany Garcia has the second most doubles (11) and seventh highest on-base percentage (.455).
Krystal Puga and Carly Williams are tied for sixth in home runs with five long balls.
Lauren Zick has swiped 15 bases, tied for the fourth best mark in the conference.
Catcher Kaitlyn Wilkens leads the conference in throwing runners out (12) and runners picked off (2).
