NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- Highlighted by a third place showing from Troy Evans, the St. John's men's golf team finished fourth at the Rhode Island Invitational on Tuesday.
Evans closed out the best tournament of his rookie season thus far with a final-round 73 at the Quidnessett Country Club to card an even-par 216 for the tournament. It marks the first top-10 result for the freshman, who now has three top-20 finishes in his past five competitions.
Classmate Michael Conforti placed 15th in the ocean state, after shooting a 224 (+8) over three rounds. Kevin King registered a total score of 228 (+12) to tie for 25th place.
The Red Storm carded a 305 (+17) final round to close out the tournament with a total score of 894 (+30), ahead of Fordham, Saint Joseph's, Holy Cross, Laval and UMass Lowell in the team standings.
Bryant University won the team title with a final score of 872 (+8), while Billy Walthouse of Rhode Island was five-strokes under par to take home the individual medal.
St. John's will close out its regular-season tournament schedule this weekend when the team travels to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Navy Spring Invitational April 23-24.
