QUEENS, N.Y. - As part of a 17-game regular season schedule announced by head coach Dr. Dave Masur for 2016, St. John's will have three matchups against national seeds from the 2015 NCAA Tournament and a total of six games against teams that posted at least 10 wins a season ago.
The regular season slate also features 11 home games at Belson Stadium, including five BIG EAST contests.
"This will be a challenging schedule for a young team, but we are excited to get out there and build on what was an excellent spring season," Masur commented. "The non-conference schedule features some of the top teams from their respective conferences, including Syracuse and Princeton."
St. John's will take the field for three exhibition games before opening up the regular season. The Red Storm will host Manhattan (Aug. 12) at Belson Stadium and travel to face Hofstra (Aug. 16) before concluding preseason action in Galloway, N.J., with a neutral-site matchup against Northwestern (Aug. 19).
The regular season begins with a brief two-game homestand at Belson Stadium. After opening the season against first-time opponent Drexel (Aug. 26), St. John's hosts Saint Peter's (Aug. 31).
"It's nice to have 11 games at home," added Masur. "Our students and fans do a great job supporting the team and our players love the atmosphere of night games at Belson Stadium."
A two-game road trip follows as St. John's takes on 2015 College Cup squad Syracuse (Sept. 4), the No. 6 national seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, before visiting Princeton (Sept. 8).
After returning home to host Holy Cross (Sept. 11), St. John's heads back out on the road and opens BIG EAST action against Marquette (Sept. 17).
"The BIG EAST continues to be one of the top conferences in the country," said Masur. "League games are decided by such a small margin and you have 10 teams battling for just six postseason spots."
The Red Storm then opens a season-long four-game homestand against Quinnipiac (Sept. 20). A game against league rival Seton Hall (Sept. 24) follows before St. John's hosts Saint Joseph's (Sept. 27). The homestand concludes against Creighton (Oct. 1), a squad that reached the 2015 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals as the No. 12 national seed.
Following a trip to conference foe Xavier (Oct. 7), St. John's heads back to Belson to host Loyola (Oct. 11) and BIG EAST squad Butler (Oct. 15).
St. John's visits Georgetown (Oct. 22), which earned the No. 3 national seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, before closing out the road portion of the regular season schedule at Villanova (Oct. 26).
St. John's then hosts DePaul (Oct. 29) before wrapping up the regular season at Belson Stadium with a Senior Night matchup against Providence (Nov. 3).
For the second-straight season, the six-team BIG EAST Tournament will be played entirely at campus sites. The Tournament schedule includes Quarterfinals (Nov. 6), Semifinals (Nov. 10) and Finals (Nov. 13).
