St. John's Athletic Communications Announces Personnel Changes

Sept. 23, 2016 QUEENS, N.Y. - In order to better serve the department's efforts in the areas of brand management and media relations, the St. John's Athletic Communications has announced several staff changes, effective immediately.
Mekale Jackson, formerly the Associate Director of Athletic Communications and the department's creative director, has been elevated to the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Creative Services and Digital Media. In his 10 years at St. John's, Jackson has been instrumental in strengthening the department's brand both internally and externally, spearheading countless projects relating to the Red Storm's image. In this new role, Jackson, a 2006 graduate of the University of Michigan, will have an increased focus on the department's licensing, brand development and advertising strategies. Additionally, he will oversee the department's creative services and digital media, which includes, graphic design, photography and leading content development and design standards of all St. John's Athletics digital verticals across video, web, social media, email and mobile.
Formerly an assistant director of athletic communications, Andrew O'Connell, has been named senior assistant director of athletic communications. Having previously served as primary contact for women's basketball and women's soccer, O'Connell will now undertake media relations responsibilities for the Red Storm's baseball and men's soccer teams, while working in a secondary capacity with the men's basketball team. O'Connell, a native New Yorker and a 2012 graduate of Fordham, is in his third year at the University.
Mike Stainkamp, a 2011 graduate of St. John's, joins the staff as an assistant director of athletic communications. In this capacity, Stainkamp, a native Long Islander, will work primarily with the Red Storm women's basketball and women's soccer teams, both of whom claimed a BIG EAST crown during the 2015-16 academic year. In addition to his undergraduate degree from St. John's, Stainkamp also earned a master's degree in journalism from Hofstra and worked for three years at LIU Post in the same capacity.
