St. John's Visits Georgetown on Friday

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Coming off a 78-66 loss to BIG EAST-leading No. 21/20 DePaul in its last outing, the St. John's women's basketball team looks to get back on track at Georgetown on Friday as the Red Storm (11-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) and Hoyas (9-6, 1-4 BIG EAST) will do battle at McDonough Arena on FS1 at 7 p.m. St. John's owns a 4-1 record in true road games this season and has won each of its last two road games.
Lisa Byington and LaChina Robinson will have the call for the national broadcast with Jay Alter providing sideline analysis. The telecast will also be available through the FOX Sports Go app.
NEWS & NOTES
After a brief two-game homestand that saw the Johnnies defeat Marquette on Sunday, 70-64, before falling to the Blue Demons on Tuesday, the Red Storm is back on the road to take on Georgetown and Villanova this weekend.
Against DePaul, Jade Walker led the offense with 16 points. Aaliyah Lewis added 15 points and seven assists, while Akina Wellere chipped in 15 points as well.
Following a standout week on the hardwood that saw her take on Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week honors, Walker continues to lead the Red Storm offense. The senior from Maplewood, N.J., leads the team and ranks ninth in the conference with 14.3 points per game. From the floor, Walker is shooting 49.0 percent, which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. In addition to her MBWA accolade, Walker earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season.
St. John's leads the nation in three-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to convert on just 23.4 percent of their tries from behind the arc. Additionally, the Red Storm lead the BIG EAST in scoring defense and opponent's field goal percentage, allowing just 53.6 points per game while limiting teams to just 34.4 percent from the floor.
Following Friday's contest at Georgetown, St. John's heads to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Sunday at 2 p.m. That game can be seen live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
• Coming off a 71-31 win at Providence, Georgetown enters play on Friday with an overall record of 9-6 and 1-4 in BIG EAST play.
• Prior to the win at Providence, Georgetown opened conference play with losses to DePaul, Marquette, Villanova and Creighton.
The Hoyas own the league's sixth-best scoring offense, averaging 65.5 points per game. On the defensive side, Georgetown is allowing 61.7 points per contest, good enough for fourth in the conference.
Georgetown is led by the trio of Dionna White, Faith Woodard and Dorothy Adomako. White and Woodard are both averaging 15.0 points per game, while Adomako is averaging 14.7 points per contest.
Defensively, Georgetown is averaging 9.0 steals per game, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
• The Hoyas own the league's third-best turnover margin at plus-2.13.
ST. JOHN'S vs. GEORGETOWN -- THE SERIES
Friday's meeting between St. John's and Georgetown will be the 58th meeting all-time between the two schools, with the Red Storm holding a 30-27 edge over its longtime conference rivals from Washington, D.C.
• Dating back to 2011, the Red Storm has won eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams, including each of the last four. The most recent meeting came in the quarterfinals of last year's BIG EAST Tournament. St. John's bounced the Hoyas, 65-52, en route to its first BIG EAST title since 1988.
