QUEENS, N.Y. - One day after becoming the 23rd player in St. John's women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points, senior Jade Walker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Walker continued to lead the Red Storm in scoring last week, averaging 16.3 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting from the field. From the free throw line, Walker hit eight of her nine attempts. On the glass, Walker grabbed an average of 4.0 boards per game as the Johnnies went 1-2 in three games last week.
Against No. 21/20 DePaul on Tuesday, Walker scored 16 points and brought down five rebounds. The Maplewood, N.J., native hit seven of her 11 tries from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
At Georgetown on Friday, Walker scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in the Red Storm's 71-66 win over the Hoyas. Additionally, Walker tied a career-best with four assists in the win.
Needing just three points to break the 1,000-point mark at Villanova on Sunday, Walker scored 13 points to move into sole possession of 22nd place on program's all-time scoring list, passing Janet Roos (1,004) in the process.
Through seven conference games, Walker is the BIG EAST's second-leading scorer, averaging 18.9 points in league play. Walker is also third in field goal percentage, shooting 56.6 percent (55-for-99) from the field in conference games.
Walker and the Red Storm return to the hardwood on Friday, hosting Creighton at Carnesecca Arena. The first tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
